AMD will reportedly stop supporting Windows 10 starting with its new Strix Point APUs and you can all blame AI for that-

According to a post on Weibo (via WCCFTech) by someone reportedly affiliated with Lenovo China, AMD is not going to be providing any Windows 10 drivers for its new chips, starting with the upcoming Strix Point APUs. That will effectively cut AMD processor support for the popular old operating system around a year before Microsoft itself ends Windows 10 life support.

“Win10 enthusiasts please note that starting from Strix Point, AMD will not provide Win10 drivers,” reads the post, finishing with a sad panda emoji.

Just to paint a picture of the number of “Win10 enthusiasts” out there, it’s estimated that Windows 10 currently has a global market share of around 69% in terms of desktop operating systems, with Windows 11 dropping down to around 27%.

These Strix Point…

Guy who mapped Skyrim’s rivers decides to follow Fallout characters home after dismissing them-

Watch On

In Fallout 3—and Bethesda games more generally—sometimes you’ll tell your companion to go away. You know: Go wait for me back at home base. They’ll say okay and then run off. Most of us assume they just run off-screen and disappear. Maybe you tried to follow them once, but you probably didn’t make it all the way home. You probably got distracted by an interesting ruin or cave filled with loot and monsters.

Curious videogame experimenter Any Austin, however, wanted to know if they actually go where they say they’ll go—or more generally where anyone goes, ever, in these games when they say they’re going somewhere. What Austin found was pretty interesting: Yeah, if you tell Dogmeat to go home to Vault 101, he’ll actually get there… eventually. He’ll …

Helldivers 2 maximum player cap has been increased, but Arrowhead still expects queues-

For those of us planning to spend the weekend spreading (managed) democracy in Helldivers 2, there’s a looming threat the game’s buckling servers won’t allow it. Earlier this week, Arrowhead Studios capped the CCU (concurrent users) at 450,000 in the name of stability, which basically means that if that cap is reached—and it almost always is —you’ll need to wait in queue.

There’s a silver lining: Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has confirmed on X that as of now, the max CCU cap has been raised from 450,000 to 700,000. “Unfortunately, we expect the CCU to reach that level,” Pilestedt added, though “we believe that the wait times will be much more bearable.”

In an earlier post, Pilestedt elaborated. “We might still hit the limit in the future but for now we are above…

Easy Anti-Cheat washes its hands of the Apex Legends hacking disaster that saw streamer accounts hijacked live- ‘There is no RCE vulnerability within EAC’-

The day after the North American finals of the Apex Legends Global Series was postponed because of a mid-match hack against two players, Easy Anti-Cheat has issued a statement saying “there is no RCE vulnerability” in its software that was exploited to carry out the attack.

The first hack, against Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose of DarkZero, took place during the third match of the day: He was suddenly able to see every other player on the map, even through walls, and was ultimately forced to drop out of the match, although his teammates managed to claim second place even though they were a man down. The second hack occurred in the next match: Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen of TSM suddenly found himself saddled with an aimbot. That match was ultimately abandoned, and the North American fina…

I’m quitting my job to sell adorable stickers on the internet-

I bloody love stickers. Granted, I have nowhere to put them, leaving me with an amassed pile of pretty-looking adhesive vinyls tucked away inside a drawer. But there’s nothing I love more than ordering something on the internet and having a few stickers thrown in as a free treat or securing some amazing hand-drawn ones at anime and gaming conventions.

I’ve always been envious of those who can draw—my talent lies more in the written word than illustrations—and I’ve spent several hours scrolling through numerous Etsy pages while admiring the sheer talent of its artists. I want that for me! I want to be a cool artsy queen, selling fun stickers of pandas drinking boba and capybaras wearing a tophat riding a witch’s broom around Earth. I want to intricately cram as m…

Is this the perfect $1,500 gaming PC- Maybe not, but it’s pretty darn close-

The sweet spot price for a new, pre-built gaming PC is arguably $1,500. While you can easily spend less or more than this, the hardware that’s available for this price is not only capable of blasting through most games around at the moment, but it’ll also be perfectly fine for years to come. Finding one that’s perfect at this price point is a bit tricky, though.

Well, not really, as this ABS Cyclone Ruby deal for $1,499.99 at Newegg amply proves. Normally we’d round that up, but I just wanted to highlight you’re getting a great gaming PC for a solitary cent under our $1,500 bar. First, its CPU is one of AMD’s fastest desktop gaming chips, the Ryzen 7 7700X. While it stands in the shadow of its cache-heavy cousin, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, it’s still extremely capable t…

Intel’s next-gen Arrow Lake desktop CPUs are reportedly only 7 weeks away from launch-

It’s been an annus horriblis for Intel, with crashing Raptor Lake chips, mass layoffs, and dropping its 2024 Innovation event to save money. So, you can bet your last dollar that the chip giant is hoping that its next generation of desktop CPUs, using the Arrow Lake-S architecture, will help in no small in reversing these fortunes. And according to one source, the launch date is October 10th, just 7 weeks away.

News of the impending release comes from tech site BenchLife (via X user Harukaze5719), although it doesn’t add much to the comment, other than an obligatory “according to the information we have gathered” statement.

I suspect that Intel planned to announce Arrow Lake-S at its annual tech event in September, but as that’s been postponed to next year, there’s …

Larian slipped an Eldritch legal clause into Baldur’s Gate 3’s ToS-

Baldur’s Gate 3 has launched to much fanfare, and the early signs are that we eatin’ good: real good, if Fraser’s work-in-progress review is anything to go by. Another indicator might be the PC Gamer Slack, which is currently crammed with discussions of characters, quests, secrets, bard idolatry, and modding it so you can have a backstory as a goat.

Such has been the heedless excitement, in fact, that I don’t think one of the PC Gamer staffers playing this thing actually read through the entire terms of service. Unimaginable, right? Well it’s tough luck for any of them who thought they may have a future with the Fey folk, because Larian’s lawyers (truly the most fearsome sub-class) have slipped-in a clause about the player’s “additional obligations under El…

Cartoon spaceship disaster sim Space Crew is free to keep on Steam for a limited time-

Back in 2017, indie studio Runner Duck released Bomber Crew, a game we said wasn’t quite a World War II version of spaceship sim FTL, but was pretty close—a cartoony management game where you’ve got a mission to accomplish and a team of experts to do it with, until you accidentally lose an engineer over the English Channel and it all goes a bit pomaceous.

In 2020 Runner Duck followed Bomber Crew with a game even closer to its inspiration called Space Crew, a game of juggling plates only instead of plates you’re actually juggling Star Trek redshirts, and also the gravity has just failed. Its “legendary edition”, which includes a new campaign, away missions, and unlockable legendary crew, is available for a grand total of zero space or Earth dollars on Steam until March 13.Read more

Latest Windows 11 test build crams ads into your start menu-

Because we are hurtling towards the boring corporate flavor version of a late capitalism future, Microsoft is once again testing ads in the Windows 11 start menu. The frustrating and consumer-bothering inclusion of these ads has once again been spotted by BleepingComputer in an upcoming test build for the product. At this point, I’m beginning to think insider users are mostly just testing Microsoft’s ads rather than features for the operating system.

This new insertion of ads comes as part of the KB5023778 Windows 11 non-security release, which features changes that should roll out with the official patch next month. As a non-security update it is optional—for now at least—and of course, it isn’t all bad. There are some welcome updates in here, including improvem…

Team Fortress 2’s latest silly business sees the game crashing because it thought players were Gordon Freeman-

Team Fortress 2 just received a huge update, upgrading it 64-bit, finally bringing the 17-year-old shooter into the modern age of gaming. But in true TF2 fashion, there was a problem that no one foresaw: the game kept crashing because it thought players were Gordon Freeman from Half-Life.

The issue has since been fixed by the latest update on April 22, and all the patch notes reveal is: “Fixed a crash under 64-bit caused by some custom HUDs using Half-Life 2 HUD elements which assume the player is Gordon Freeman.” It’s a bit of an odd outlier, sandviched between ABI compatibility issues and snd_cull_duplicates command not working. I nearly glossed over it myself.

This issue seemed to only affect players who’d customised their HUD using elements from Half-Life 2’s UI vi…

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 closed beta is live for invitees, now that Larian has fixed a critical bug- ‘[The] dice are now rolling’-

July 25, 2024: While further info is still under wraps, Larian studios has announced that the ‘dice are now rolling’, making the Patch 7 Baldur’s Gate 3 closed beta available for those participating. The original story, as well as current details on the patch itself, can be found below.

If you’re wondering why the closed beta for Baldur’s Gate 3’s seventh patch is delayed, picture this: You’ve sat down to play D&D with your mates. You’re all excited to toy with some new homebrew content your DM has organised. You go to make a Wisdom (Perception) check to spot anything amiss in the room when, unprompted, your DM reaches across the table, grabs your dice, and throws them out of the window.

That’s basically what’s going on with Baldur…
